Frequently Asked Questions
1. What software and drivers should I have installed?
You should have installed the Adobe Acrobat Reader and Microtek ScanWizard drivers from the Kopyjet CD-ROM. IPhoto Express (comes in a green CD-ROM Envelope) should be installed for designing cakes. Printer drivers should be installed from Disk 1 of the Canon Creative CD set (small Kopyjet printer) or the Canon Printer Driver diskettes (large Kopyjet Printer) which are labeled "BJ Printer Driver for Windows 95 and Windows 3.1"
2. How do I print large (11" x 17") frosting sheets with the large Kopyjet printer?
At the PRINT screen in iPhoto Express, click on the SETUP button. Make sure the "Canon BJC-4550" or "Canon BJC 5000" printer is selected. Set the Paper Size to TABLOID for 11"x17" frosting sheets or LETTER for 8.5"x11" frosting sheets. Also make sure Orientation is set to the same orientation the scanned photo was taken at to ensure minimal "white space" on your printed Frosting Sheet. Remember, photos appear nicer on cakes if the image takes up as much of the frosting sheet as possible.
3. How many frosting sheets can I print per set of Kolor Kartridges and what is the life expectancy of the print head?
The average life of a set of Kolor Kartridges are 35 to 45 images per set for the 8.5"x11" frosting sheets and half that amount for the 11"x17" frosting sheets. If your images use a lot of coloring, such as photographs, you may get less printed images since you will tend to run out of one color faster than the others. Images such as cartoon characters which are placed on white backgrounds will yield more printed images per set of Kartridges. The life expectancy of the print head itself is 36 Kartridge changes before it will need to be replaced.
4. What types and brands of frosting do Kopykake Frosting Sheets work best with?
Frosting Sheets work best on Buttercream or BetterCreme type frostings. Even Frozen cakes work great. Printed images may tend to bleed or fade on whipped cream cakes that contain a high moisture content. It is recommended that for whipped cream cakes to fill your cake with whipped cream, but frost the top with buttercream.
5. Will the printed Frosting Sheets melt into frosting that has set for a day or more?
If the frosting on the cake appears dry or crusty, apply a fine mist of water onto the cake top before applying the Frosting Sheet. This can be achieved with an airbrush.
6. What is the shelf life of Frosting Sheets and how should I store them?
Frosting Sheets have a shelf life of 6 months if kept in their sealed, ziplock bag. Frosting Sheets DO NOT require refrigeration and should be stored at room temperature.
7. What is the shelf life of Kolor Kartridges and how should I store them?
